Stranded! - December 8, 2005

So yesterday, after I wrote the chipper post you see below, I took Ryan to My Gym for his class and the headed to Weight Watchers. Well on the way I must have hit then curb and BANG! blew out my front passenger tire!

So here we are stuck on one of the coldest days of the year! I call mazda roadside assistance and they tell me we have to wait 2 HOURS for the tow truck to arrive. At least there was a Best Buy near by so Ryan and I were able to hang out there and get some shopping done. When the truck finally arrived the guy says to me, "You know, you have two flats!" I'm like... "WHAT?!?" I never even thought to look at the rear passenger tire after I saw the fact that the front was flat.

Well this was my unlucky day, the tow truck already had a car hooked up so he couldn't tow us right away. First he had to get rid of the car he had and then come back. This was another 1/2 hour of waiting.

Finally we make it to Mr. Tire and they tell me 2 more hours to get the tires replaced! It was a LONG day! Finally, Bill left work early to pick us up. All I wanted to do was get home!

Just an Update - December 7, 2005

I'm always yelling at Bill for not updating his page and here I am going on almost a month. So I figured I would update on all fronts.

First, Mom-iness is wonderful. Ryan is almost 6 months old and is an absolute joy! He sleeps well, loves to eat, and is overall a very happy and content baby. He goes to daycare 2-3 times a week and that is going really well too! I'm so happy I found a home daycare I can trust.

Second, work is going great! I just got all of my curriculum approved yesterday. Not that everyone really cares, but I'm been working my butt off on 2 new degree options and 4 new classes since before Ryan was born. Well, that all past inspection yesterday! This is something I wanted to accomplish for over a year!

Third front, the home, Billy and I splurged on a Christmas gift for ourselves. We got a new TV! The Samsung HL-R5067W 50" Widescreen HDTV with Digital Cable Ready Tuner. It's friggin' HUGE! but nice. We are waiting for Comcast to come out and hook up our High Def. Everyone says it will be unbelievable. All we can do is wait and see.

Fourth, I have fallen short this semester at school. I've been so busy and had so many family responsibilities my classes suffered. I'm now working like crazy to get ahead. I hope to be able to finish the semester is good standing.

I guess that's it, so many things happening! Plus I think Christmas is only 17 days away! Oh and my newest project, I want to make an electronic Christmas card. Not sure if I will be able to pull it off, but I'm going to try.

First Day of Daycare - November 17, 2005

Today was the first day I left Ryan at a Day Care. It might have felt like the most unnatural thing to do in my life. Now I called multiple places and met a few providers, I didn't just randomly choose a home and say "here take my kid for a few hours" but it sure still felt that way.

Now the women I did choose is great! She also has a 5 month old and it will be just Ryan and her little one all day until she picks up her after school kids. She is willing to be flexible and take Ryan part time. I really couldn't ask for a better situation.

I guess it will be OK... Please tell me it will be OK! :)

I'm sure Ryan will fill you in on his thoughts shortly. ;)

In Need of New Music - November 8, 2005

OK, this is a plea. Ever since I moved all of my music to the iPod, I never listen to the radio. I attempt to find new music on iTunes, but haven't had much luck lately. What are you listening to? I'm in need for some new good music! Or even some good old music I haven't heard yet. Anything!! Just tell me what you are listening too..... Pleeeease.

Hey Veronica, I am a Bloom IITer and stumbled on to here from your pics link that you sent out today. I understand what you mean by always needed music. I am a huge music fan so I will try and help you out. First things first, I recommend getting XM radio. Not just in the car either but in the house. Everyone always says that once you hear the xm you never go back and it is totally true. But on to solving your current need. Here is a random list of songs (brand new, kind of new, couple years old, really old) that I can pull out of the top of my head. I saw you like interpol and cake so I am going to give you some alt/prog euro rock, which makes us all feel smarter. In no order. - The Bravery - Unconditional - Fall Out Boy - Dance, Dance - Kasabian - Club Foot - Death Cab for Cutie - Marching Bands of Manhattan - Iggy Pop - The Passenger (in new movie) - Bowie/Queen - Pressure (so it in a commercial yesterday - greatest song ever) - Scissor Sisters - Take Your Mamma Out - Modest Mouse - Black Cadillacs - Radiohead - Talk Show Host - Coldplay - Amsterdam - U2 - City of Blinding Lights - Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Maps Ok and some oldies but goodies - John Mellencamp - Ain't Even Done With The Night - Bill Withers - Use Me - Donna Summer - On the Radio that should get you started.....I know a million more if you need it......happy turkey hunting.

Lincoln Park, Godsmack and Nickelback are my newer favorites lately, but you know, turn on windows player and play one of those radio stations in whatever genre and you would be surprised at the great mix they come up with.

Poker is the Devil - October 23, 2005

Some of you know I entered the Pokerstars blogger tournament. It was a free tournament for anyone who maintains a blog. Well, I was really excited about it, I don't know why, I guess it was because I was registered for it all month. Anyway, I was doing really well and I actually had a chance! There were 1473 entrants and at one point I was holding 88th place! I couldn't believe it. I was up and down and then finally lost with JJ to KK. Not a bad showing. I ended up in 288th place. I needed to come in the top 100 for a prize so I was a little disappointed.

Actually I was really disappointed. For some reason playing poker is one of the most frustrating and emotionally draining things I can do. when I'm up and make a good call I'm on top of the world. If I lose a hand and have less then the average chip count I feel like there is no hope and I might as well give up. In retrospect, its actually quite funny. It's amazing how it affects you. Those of you who know Bill know he is exactly the same way. I think Sasha is right, it's our competitiveness. We just get way too invested in the game.

Seriously though, I'm proud to come in 288th place. What am I saying, that sucked! LOL

NOooo... Not Glasses - October 14, 2005

Not that there is anything wrong with glasses but when you never had to wear them before it feels like your are really getting old. I don't know about you but I always make old jokes when I see my mom put on her glasses or hold the paper at arms length just so she can see the headlines. In my family is was a symbol of age because my parents never really needed them until they got older.

In all seriousness, I don't need them because of age I need them because I'm farsighted and have astigmatism. The doctor actually made fun of my and said it only took me 29 years to get diagnosed. Bill is already calling me four eyes and I didn't even get them yet!

I have to admit when the doctor but the prescription on me it was like night and day, I couldn't believe how much clearer things were. So I will probably be wearing them all the time. I'll try and post a picture of me with glasses when I get them next week. Gosh, it sounds weird, me in glasses.

Comment from Carolyn on 10/17/2005 8:10:44 AM

I am also farsighted with an astigmatism. I was in bifocals at age 5. Yay for contacts!

Comment from La on 10/17/2005 9:43:31 AM

I actually was told about 5 years ago that I needed glasses, but only for when I'm reading or on the computer. There are so many times I find myself sitting here squinting and all, and thinking about how I SHOULD go get my glasses, but refusing to do so. LOL Hey, I need to talk to you about some stuff I'm working on... I might could wanna use your help! Drop me an email?

Way Too Much Fun! - October 9, 2005

So Bill and I went to Target (our new favorite past time since becoming parents) and I splurged on a new game gadget called the Eye Toy. It's this little camera you connect to Play Station 2 which allows you to play games with your body.

The Eye Toy came with some sample games so we come home, hook it up and start playing. One of the games was a called disco stars. Yup you guessed it, you have to dance and follow the moves on the screen. Like the game you see the kids playing in the arcade but instead of using your feet you use your arms. Well I give it a try and I'm horrible the first few times. So Bill says "let me show you how it's done," he gets up and dances to the beat! He wasn't half bad! Anyway this started a sort of dance off as we competed round after round. Needless to say, I had the highest score of the evening. It was way too much fun!

Comment from Sasha on 10/12/2005 3:47:27 PM

You guys crack me up. You're both so competitive! I can just see you having a "dance off." Ha!

Comment from La on 10/17/2005 9:45:01 AM

What a great way to exercise! I've been wanting to get that, but since I don't have any kids... well... lol And we all know that there's no way in HELL I'm going to the arcade to play! LMAO!
