Mom, Don't Kill Me - September 17, 2005
I got a tattoo of the man in my life.
Why is it you always worry what your mom will think even when you are (almost) 30?
Well if you didn't know this about me, I'm a little addicted to tattoos. I'm not saying I'll be getting a back piece for full sleeves any time soon but I like to get small symbols that represent something to me.
So in honor of my son I got a small tattoo of his name on my ankle under my small sun. This makes my fifth and final tattoo, I think. You never know and I'm not making any promises, but as of now I can't foresee a new on in the future.
So take a look and tell me what you think.

Hey Roni, You wild cousin of mine! I had no idea you had 5 tatoos! I'm chicken - don't they hurt? By the way, Ryan is the cutest thing ever! As always, great hearing from you! Christine

Hey chica - I have a tattoo of an angel on the small of my back. It's pretty big, but not really - and I hid it from my parents until I was 26! (Got it at 17!) I got mine when I was going through some rough times dealing with the death of a boyfriend and basic "coming of age" kinda crapola. My mom had bought me a book about talking to your angels, and it just seemed to fit for me. I'm all about meaningful tats, babe - and there's nothing more meaningful than your own flesh and blood! I'm sure that when I have children, their names will be on my body somewhere... :D
The Apple Don't - September 12, 2005
Have you heard of the expression "The Apple Don't Fall Far from the Tree?"
Those of you that know Bill well know the man can sleep, I mean REALLY sleep. I've seen him go to bed at midnight and not even begin to wake up until 1:30 the next day. Even then it was a process to get him out of bed! Well his son appears to possible have inherited his fathers sleeping patterns. I put Ryan to bed at 8PM, we read our stories, put on the mobile and within a half an hour he was out. The boy slept all night without a peep until 8AM the next morning. I'm trying not to get too used to this knowing teething is right around the corner. But I'm enjoying it while it's here!
First Night Away - August 30, 2005
Last night was my first night without the baby! It was so weird! I mean, I've been breastfeeding so the baby has been attached to me, literally!
"What did you do?" You ask. Well, Even though I'm on maternity leave until the end of the year, I decided to take two classes towards my Doctorate this semester. I figured it would be a good way to ease back to work once I have to teach again. So every Monday night and Saturday afternoon Ryan will be stuck with Daddy! And he's in trouble, football season is starting this weekend. We all know what Bill is like when Notre Dame is playing.
I'm trying to get bill to write a blog entry about his first night alone with baby, but you know how he is!

Roni- Its good for you to get out! I took some courses when the kids were first born just to get out and have SOME adult interaction. Yoga is good thing to do to... which I am starting next week. Sounds like things are going well. DEB
It's 6am, I'm Up, Baby's Sleeping?!?! - Augusts 18. 2005
Why i'm not in bed enjoying the longest sleep I could have since June 15 I'll never know. Ryan has been sleeping in his crib with no middle of the night feeding since 10PM! It's unbelievable. I may be the luckiest mom in the world! Seriously! He's only 2 months old and sleeping 8 hours! The bad thing, since I'm breastfeeding, I had to wake up and pump or my left boob was going to become an exploding milk bomb. Of course now I can't fall back asleep because 1.) I'm no excited that he's slept this long and 2.) there is no way he can go much longer so i might as well wait up for him.
Ok, now I have to check and make sure he's still breathing.
Yup! and he's starting to wake up! Gotta go!

I really like your site. What blogging tool do you use? It's cool.

Michele - What a great compliment! I don't use blogging software. I'm a web developer, this is my own site and my own design. I think you made my day!! :)
I'm a REEL Mom - August 2, 2005
I did something today I never thought I would do. I went to see a movie with 50 screaming kids, and I liked it! My local movie theater has a special movie showing on Tuesday mornings just for moms where they can bring the kids and not worry about bothering anyone. It's called Reel Moms.
So I went this morning about 1/2 hour early to check out the scene. I wasn't sure what to expect. I was relieved to see a few women pushing strollers and a dad with two toddlers. So I say what the heck and buy my ticket. In the theater I find a seat and get comfy with Ryan, who of course is sleeping. A few more people stroll in and I say to myself, "This will be nice." Then, about 5 minutes before the movie starts, a wave of moms, strollers and babies come pouring into the theater. It was the funniest thing I ever saw. Mom's would park their strollers in the front and take their kids into seats.
The movie starts, and you would think it would be horrible, but most kids were well behaved. Ever once in awhile you would hear a baby get fussy or a toddler get bored, but overall you were able to sit and enjoy the movie. I was even able to breast feed Ryan and feel comfortable about it.
I think I found a way to keep myself busy on Tuesday mornings and keep up with my movie watching!

What movie did you see?

DUH?!? I saw "Must Love Dogs" I need to add my review! Honestly, it wasn't that good. Kinda boring.
I'm One Lucky Mom! - July 29, 2005
So I'm poking around reading news sites and I came across this article on maternity leave. In a nutshell it says that out of 168 nations 163 of them have some sort of paid maternity leave and the US is not one of them. Isn't that sad?
Now, I'm not getting paid maternity leave but since I teach at a college and have the summers off, I was able to negotiate a full 6 months off and exhaust my sick time to get paid for some of it. I consider myself one lucky mom. I know of other new moms that are actually getting ready to go back to work within 12 weeks! I can't imagine it. I'm breastfeeding and have spend every moment I could with my 6 week old, only having 6 more weeks left before going back to a 9-5 just isn't something I could do right now. I'm already dreading the fact that I have to go back to work in January. My goal is to not have to use day care until Ryan is at least one year old. Hopefully I will be able to meet that goal.
Weight Watchers Week 4 - July 27, 2005
The big one month weigh in! After 4 weeks of following Weight Watchers Flexible point plan I am down a total of 15.4 pounds! I even survived shore week and lost a whopping 2.6 pounds even though I ate the boardwalk pizza and Kohrs Ice Cream (well actually frozen yogurt, I couldn't go that nuts!)
Anyway, in honor of my 1 month anniversary I'm adding a Weight Watchers section for myself. Hopefully this will help keep me on track so next month will be as successful as this month! plus it will free up my blog for other things besides weight loss updates.
My First 29th birthday - July 25, 2005
Some of you may have known my birthday was yesterday. Well I turned 29, and yes I'm really 29. Although I'm sure I'll be 29 for some time!
I do have a classic, "you know you're getting old when" story. Seriously, you know you're getting old when you get a vacuum cleaner for your birthday. Billy got me the dyson vacuum, you know the "doesn't loose suction" commercial with the british guy. You all know we have Rudy and Rudy sheds A LOT, well I mentioned a couple of months ago that it would be nice to have a better vacuum and Billy remembered. The really sad thing is I really wanted it and was excited to get it for my birthday. So I guess I should be saying... "You know you are getting older when you get a vacuum for your birthday and your happy you did!" I just wonder what I'll get for my next 29th birthday.

Happy Birthday, Roni. Having been 29 for over five years now, I'm really envious of your Dyson.
Weight Watchers Week 3 - July 19, 2005
Well I didn't plan on making this a weight watchers blog but it's about the only thing I do since I'm not working or taking any classes. Anyway, this week went 100 times better! DOWN 6.4 pounds! That's a total of 12.8 pound in three weeks! I can't believe it.
This week will be a test of willpower since we are heading to the jersey shore tomorrow. My goal is just not to gain anything. We'll see, that boardwalk pizza and Kohrs bros ice cream is kinda hard to resist!
Weight Watchers Week 2 - July 13, 2005
Ok, not good but not bad news either, at least I didn't gain anything. I was really disappointed at my second week weigh in, only down .4 points, that's right, POINT 4. That's like a pair of socks, isn't it? Anyway, I thought the whole breastfeeding things would "melt the pounds away", that's what everyone said. Hopefully next week will go better, wish me luck.
Weight Watchers Week 1 - July 8, 2005
Most people know I'm slightly weight obsessed. Well being pregnant has put me back to my all time highest weight. I'm not that depressed about it considering the little gift I got from gaining all of it! Anyway, as soon as I could I joined Weight Watchers and I finished my first week yesterday. Happy to say I was down 6lbs! For a total of 38 since Ryan was born. It will be a long journey but I'm up for it. I may add a Weight Watchers section tracking my progress and sharing recipes, especially since a few people I know are also following the same diet. We'll see.
